Thiru Uthirakosamangai IS an ancient Saivite temple situated about 15 km FROM Ramanathapuram, widely regarded AS Dakshina Kailash, the southern abode of Shiva. Its origins reach back to hoary antiquity, AND it IS celebrated AS a place WHERE the sacred Jyothirlingam of Shiva IS consecrated IN the region. The temple IS particularly famous for its rare, life-size emerald Nataraja statue, which stands 1.83 metres tall AND remains covered IN sandal paste for most of the year. It IS unveiled only ON a single day IN December, during the Arudhra Darshanam festival, drawing thousands of devotees who throng to witness the sacred vision.
