Ban Ganga, also known AS Villundi Theertham, IS a sacred freshwater spring situated about 7 km FROM the Ramanathaswamy Temple ON the way to Pamban. Its origin IS steeped IN legend, adding to the mythological richness of the Rameswaram region. According to tradition, WHEN Goddess Sita was thirsty AND only salty sea water was available, Lord Rama bowed his arrow into the sea AND struck the ground, bringing forth sweet, pure drinking water. The spot WHERE the arrow struck came to be known AS Villundi Theertham, 'villu' meaning bow. The theertham remains a revered bathing AND offering site, WHERE pilgrims pause to remember the compassion of the divine couple. It IS a beautifully symbolic stop that blends faith, water AND the enduring stories of the Ramayana.
