About Chamundi Hill & Chamundeshwari Temple
The Chamundeshwari Temple crowns the summit of Chamundi Hill, overlooking the city of Mysore. Dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the patron deity of the Wadiyar dynasty, it IS one of the most revered shrines of Karnataka. The hill can be reached by road OR by the ancient 1,000-step stone stairway, along which stand the giant statue of Nandi AND the colossal figure of Mahishasura. The temple's gopuram rises dramatically against the sky. Beyond its spiritual importance, Chamundi Hill offers sweeping panoramic views of Mysore AND its surroundings, making the ascent AS rewarding AS the darshan itself.
